Peter Van Buskirk history



Peter Van Buskirk, born August 29, 1762 at Harrington, New Jersey. He died at the age of 99 at Hopewell, N.Y., 1861. He lived on the old family homestead at Teaneck, Bergen County, N.J., and became a soldier in the Revolutionary War when very young. He was given the task of carrying the flag. He married his cousin, Sarah Van Buskirk, daughter of Jacobus and Vrontie Van Buskirk. Peter rode in a carriage behind President James Buchanan at the Inauguration in Washington (1857) as the last living Revolutionary War soldier.
