Alice Russel has been a favorite of her descendants. She has lived in our memories through her letters.
Copies of the letters she wrote from the Colorado "frontier" (from 1874 to 1882) to her aunt Adalaide Truesdell in McHenry County, Illinois
give us a view of not only what she endured, but what kind of a wife, mother and person she was.Alice is someone we are proud to have in our family tree.
Photo copies of Alices letters have been circulated around the family for the last 20 or so years, but this year, the San Luis Valley Historical Society went further and published Alice's letters in one of their quartely journals. The issue is The San Luis Valley Historian, Volume XXX Number 1, 1998.
